Surf's Up

Spring has arrived and brought with it the surfers! Yes, we do have them year ‘round here, but Spring brings even the spleeny pouring over the sand in hopes of catching a ride. We love to go to the beach and watch. Sometimes we lug our 10 foot board out and the kids have a go at it. I do too, but I’m not telling you when ‘cause I don’t want anyone I know watching me!

We got this set, aptly named “Surf’s Up” at the same time we got the Jeep in the Hit the Road set. Morgan thinks they go together perfectly. She’s been stamping boards to go on top of the Jeeps for days!

This card came about because I was playing around with helping her come up with ideas for a background for her stamps. She didn’t choose to follow my lead, but I kinda liked the mulberry paper and tempting turquoise mixed to make the waves. Of course now that it’s made, I’m imagining a bit of white mulberry peeking over the blue in spots for the breakers. Next time.. yeah that’s it.

A little note of thanks

Hello again! I'm still working on finding my style when it comes to making cards and LTCs and scrapbooking candy. With this card front (or title piece for a scrapbooking page) I think I'm getting a little bit closer. It feels more like me anyway. Rustic, Shabby-fabulous or just plain odd! Whatever you call it... it's getting closer. So if you have old wire or rusty bits - toss 'em my way. I know I'll find a use for 'em. *wink* Oh! Or better yet, call me and I'll show you how to use 'em!

Recipe

Stamps: Note of Thanks, Joy of the Season
Ink: Chocolate Chip, White Craft Ink
Paper: DSP and Chocolate Chip CS
Extras: Wire, Brads, While Gel Pen

Oops! LTC

Mr. Wizard was practicing a new spell and something went terribly wrong!

It doesn't seem possible that just two short years ago we set sail on the Maiden Voyage for swapping Letterboxer Trading Cards (LTCs). Mama Cache hosted the inaugural swap and when interest built, she explained LTCs (then called Letterbox Trading Cards) on her blog. As a community, we will be forever grateful to her for taking this idea and making it real.

Who could have predicted that they would be so loved (or so hated) by letterboxers in the United States? Not me, but I'm so glad I opened my mouth and asked if anyone would be interested in trying it out.

This card is for the reunion of the original swappers. It's stamped on Whisper White card stock and colored with watercolor pencils and an Aqua Painter. I decided to do this card because I started with "coloring book" stamps and still love them.

To my very good friend Mama Cache: I am grateful for your friendship and support over the last few years. You rock my world!

To all LTCers out there: Thanks for sharing your art and your talents with us over the last two years.

Thanks for checking it out!

It's a Jeep Thing

If you don't know... I'm a little nuts for jeeps. No, I don't have one. I did but it's long gone. (long story) Anyway, the Spring and Summer catalog came out for Stampin' Up and I just happened to flip through it and found THIS!

*Squeal* OMG! I think I jumped up and down for like a few minutes or so. It's called "Hit the Road" and sells for $19.95. You know I had to have it. This little jeep would pull me out of my self imposed world of dark romance is nothing else would! *giggle*

So, I have several to show you. Why? Because you can never be too rich, too happy or have too many jeeps! You can quote me on that!!! *wink*

This one is stamped in Black Classic ink on Whisper White card stock and painted with watercolor pencils and Aqua Painters. Oh and did I mention it's GREEN! hehee. The color is a combination of Garden Green and Old Olive.

Blue. Ahhh! Well Tempting Turquoise to be precise, is a lovely shade for a jeep. Don't you think? This is stamped again in classic black on non-SU watercolor paper. The paper had a lot of tooth and that texture made the stamp a little rough and patchy. That was no problem though. I just took the Stampin Write marker and filled in what was missing. I'm sure that when my SU watercolor paper comes in, it will be smoother. I painted it with a blender pen and inks from the stamp pads. There's the turquoise, black and creamy carmel.

Then came the red. Can you see all the possibilities of this one stamp from this set! *wink* This was the back of the watercolor paper (smoother) and stamped nicely in classic black. I went back to the watercolor pencils and Aqua Painters for this one.

That's all that I did with them... but that was not the end of the Jeepin day at our house. Nope.. my daughter made this lovely for me.

It's hanging at my office right now. I helped her mask off the jeep and she stamped the pine trees with the "Lovely as a Tree" set in old olive. The scan might not show it, but she painted the jeep and it was great. Then she added pink glitter pen over everything to give it pizzaz! Now I ask you... who can resist a sparkly pink jeep from their daughter?

See you next time!
